Preparing for your spray tan:
Reasons for exfoliating
The spray tanning solution affects only the dead skin cells. Your skin has a
build up of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner the tan will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take
a while for it to “build up”. Your tan will last longer. It is important to use
an exfoliating glove and products that don't contain any oils, otherwise the
oily barrier can stop the spray tanning solution getting through.
Highly recommended for a perfect exfoliation is the Dermasuri Exfoliating glove, available at Attagirl - no other lotions or scrubs required with these gloves, as you would use with water only!
take extra care to exfoliate areas like knees, elbows, heels, top of feet, and ankles..
Use a pumice stone on your feet if necessary.
You may use nail varnish as it will also protect the
nails against the browning effects of the tanning solution.
You may wear a dark coloured bikini or underwear to be
tanned in if you wish, but the beauty of Aviva Labs tanning solution is that it is WATER BASED, so will wash out of clothing.
Most ladies prefer to tan topless or some choose to tan naked
Tie long hair up.
Bring loose dark clothing, and open shoes to change
into after your tan - (a sarong or gown works well!)
For the first 6 to 8 hours after your tan
do not: Bath, shower or swim.
do not: Do any exercise that will result in perspiration
do not: Apply lotions or make up.
do not: Wear tight fitting clothing
8 hours to 12 hours after your tan
Shower or bath to wash all the bronzer off.
Dab skin dry rather than rubbing with a towel
Moisturize the entire body well.
Maintaining and prolonging your tan:
Avoid long, hot showers or baths.
Avoid swimming in swimming pools with a high chlorine
The use of water resistant sun block can help to
prolong the tan when on the beach or swimming.
Moisturize daily - very important!
Home exfoliation: - Exfoliating gloves or a loofah, mixed with an oil free exfoliant will mechanically scrub off your dead
skin cells. Preferably exfoliate in a shower so that the dead skin can wash away.
One of the many homemade recipes is to mix half a cup of sugar with some shower gel (oil free) and thoroughly rub the mixture in little circles over your entire body with the glove or loofah, making sure you reach every inch of your body! Then wash mixture off with warm water. Dont moisturize. The skin must be free of all oils, creams, deodorant etc so there is no barrier when the tan solution is applied.
